Published in Sydney and distributed internationally, Dirty Queer has an Australian and international queer perspective on photography, arts and culture. Distinct from the gay mainstream, we offer a sexy and subversive angle on diverse queer experience.
A cleanly designed, print-only magazine, Dirty Queer focuses on in-depth features and photo essays featuring established and emerging artists from Australia and across the globe.
Issue #1 features included: the Sydney Femme Guild, “revolutionary bodies” by Del LaGrace Volcano, LA artist-model-actor Trevor Wayne, “Hard Yakka” centrefold, Melbourne photo studio Bad Behaviour, “money shots” by Torrie Torrie, and ten years of Sydney’s infamous Bad Dog parties. Short “Quick and Dirty” features: Gavin, Benn and Craig, Chris, Jez, and Josef.
Issue #2 features included Bruce LaBruce talking about LA Zombie and more, Australian artist Arlene TextaQueen, Barcelona’s Luis Pedro de Castro, a transman footy team centrefold, JD Samson, Christopher Schulz from PINUPs (USA), and Ireland’s Miss Panti. Quick and Dirty features: Thy Anh, Grant, and Matt.
Issue #3 – launching in late September 2011 – features trans performer and human unicorn Danni Daniels, Melbourne photographer and club promoter Nik Dimopoulos, a Sydney Bears centrefold, interviews with long established Australian artists and performers Aña Wojak and William Yang, French movie producer Emilie Jouvet, and Jez Pez from DUDE Trans Male Zine. Quick and Dirty features: Matty, Megan and Sarah, and TJ.
Published twice yearly (2 per year); A5 format; 80 full colour pages.
The magazine includes both a ‘boy’ cover and a ‘girl’ cover.
